Uneven Pigmentation

With aging and sun exposure come small dark spots – lentigines and freckles – and dark patches on the face, chest, hands, arms and legs. Age spots and hyperpigmentation are also caused by heredity, smoking, hormonal changes and medications. Your first step in treating them should be a thorough skin examination by Dr. Gordon. She will make sure these changes are merely of cosmetic and not medical concern. Any suspicious spots will be biopsied. This visit is usually covered by your insurance plan.

Your next step should be a home care regimen designed for your individual needs by Dr. Gordon and her experienced aesthetician. Many patients have solved all of their pigmentation concerns with the use of the Obagi Nu-Derm or the simpler Obagi-C Rx Systems.* These regimens increase skin cell turnover, reduce pigment production and increase collagen production.* The result is smoother, even toned and healthier skin.* You will be followed on a regular basis by our aesthetician as you use these products. And you will be taught how to maintain your new more youthful skin.

A third step may include treatment with IPL Photofacial. This laser treatment removes age spots and broken blood vessels in three to five sessions.* Another option is a chemical peel whose depth will vary depending on the degree of uneven pigmentation in your skin. Both procedures can be performed the neck, chest, hands and arms as well as the face. They are relatively painless with minimal downtime.

Acne is distressing and disfiguring – whether you’re fourteen or forty! What are your options? A medical consultation with Dr. Gordon should be your first step. Let her diagnose your type of acne accurately. Whether it’s hormonally, genetically or life-style induced, she will prescribe the proper regimen for your acne. Whether topical or oral medications are needed, choose an experienced dermatologist to determine your medical regimen. And visits are usually covered under your insurance plan!

Chemical Peels

For acne, light salicylic acid peels are often helpful.* Buy a series of five- the sixth is free! For acne scarring, a deep chemical peel is the treatment of choice. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) applied to the skin causes peeling for a week. Smooth, scar-free skin appears for a lifetime!* Even darker skin types can be treated with a variant of TCA peel – the Blue Peel!
